chapter, district, & regional Student auditions
CDoes my chapter have to use the new guidelines (Summer 2015) for Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 Chapter-level Student Auditions?
Yes, your chapter does need to use the new guidelines. The NATS Board of Directors approved changes recommended by a subcommittee regarding the National Student Auditions (NSAs). These national guidelines are to be used for all Student Auditions conducted under the labels of Chapter Student Auditions or Regional Student Auditions. There seems to be some confusion and inconsistent application of the Copyright Policy. Can you advise us on what we actually HAVE to do to comply? All Student Auditions must comply with NATS explicit copyright policy. This means that pianists must play from originals. No unauthorized copies are allowed. Verified copies (legally purchased copies) and printed copies from public domain sources are allowable. Any violation of the copyright policy will result in disqualification. Instructions for verifying copyright for the YouTube Regional Student Audition will be sent with registration information. Your adherence to and compliance with this policy is greatly appreciated, models professional behavior for our students, helps avoid conflicts, and protects our national association from legal action. For up to date information on NATS's copyright policy, click here. How do we recommend students for the National Student Auditions? Prior to the 2015-16 academic year, the Intermountain Region has not participated in the NSAs. The Intermountain Region Auditions currently take place on-line. The application process is completely on-line, and all audition files must be posted to YouTube. I have a question about the National Music Theater Competition. Information on the NMTC Competition can be found here. Music theater students who do not qualify under NSA categories are encouraged to enter the NMTC Competition. |
